Where we’ve been
i’ve been a fan of lactose intolerant since i saw tony tulathimutte there reading his epic about a pornsick sadist’s onlyfans request, so i was excited to catch the last lactose intolerant for a while in aaww’s new space (which is gorgeous)! the readings were great across the board but i was especially into adlan jackson’s sardonic prose and may teng’s piece on opulent asian malls. ruth minah buchwald (the host) also read a stellar intro to her novel which is going to become a seminal text for asian women with ibs.

i went to cassette for the first dead poets school of rock reading and played chess w meg the readers and musicians were epic there was a lot of turnout on a monday night and vibes were sweet + their ticket sales fundraised for ny immigration coalition ! i wont be in town for it but you should go to their upcoming event and make friends w all the lovely ppl<3
—subin
just when my bed was so enticing on a sweaty sunday evening, making the manhattan trek to the accent sisters reading absolutely paid off with some lovely poetry. after perusing the art exhibit, i sat on the couch in the back and disha began the night with some non-linear retellings of matronage and maternity that have stuck with me throughout the night. also, if i may be a homer, emdash’s very own subin absolutely crushed it on the mic in a way you’ll have to see to believe. many thanks to heather for hosting and maybe i’ll catch some of you at the lyric(ii) event at the start of august ! (what a good month it has been - going to so many readings has given me the same joy as stepping out of the shower only to realize that it is raining outside.)
